Puri Jagannath Temple
One of the Char Dham Pilgrimages –
The Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, is one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Jagannath (a form of Vishnu).
Mysterious Architecture –
Mahaprasad Tradition –
The temple serves a special offering called Mahaprasad, which is cooked in earthen pots over wood fire, stacked in a unique way, with the topmost pot cooking first.
Rath Yatra Festival –
The annual Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival) is one of the grandest religious events, where the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are taken out in massive chariots.
Non-Aryan Influence –
Unlike many Hindu temples, where idols are made of stone or metal, the Jagannath idols are wooden and replaced every 12 to 19 years in a ritual called Nabakalebara.
